Forgive us if we are among the first to mention ‘Christmas’ in your household, but it’s on its way, and we have festive joy by the bucketful to tempt you. You’ll have your best Christmas ever, thanks to the super events we’ve lined up for your enjoyment and entertainment.

But first, why not take a break before the Festive Season hits us? Fancy yourself as Sherlock Holmes, or Taggart or even Miss Marple? We have an extremely complicated murder mystery evening arranged for Saturday, November 10. Treat yourself to an evening of excellent food and wine, and see if you can spot the killer in your midst.

Nearer to Christmas, we strongly recommend a break to prepare yourself for the inevitable pressures which lie ahead. Our nearby market town, Kirkby Lonsdale, celebrates the arrival of Christmas in a unique way. Father Christmas Weekend is celebrated on the first weekend of December. It sees the town turn into a child’s wonderland – and the grown-ups love it as well.

All the shops have Christmas trees mounted above their doorways or windows. As the afternoon light starts to fade, a parade of Father Christmases in various forms of transport, from sleighs to fire engines, delights the hundreds who line the streets to see the REAL Santa wave his magic wand as he passes each Christmas tree. And the trees light up, one by one, as Santa passes. It really is magic.

The shops have special offers for discerning bargain hunters, and there’s a small fair in the main town square, complete with Santa’s grotto.
